I have always loved doll houses. When I was a kid I had one of those 1950’s metal Marx dollhouses, and it always was the one toy that I regretted not having still when I grew up. Last year I made a kitchen for the Blythe dolls. The reason I wanted a kitchen instead of a bedroom was because I had discovered re-ment, and the cute little dishes and food were something I just had to have.
I wanted to build a room large enough for a couple of dolls to fit inside, along with all of the re-ment kitchen furniture that I wanted to buy. I was worried about being able to light the inside of this room well enough to take decent photographs, so I built it with a detachable roof thinking that would give me enough light.
Here is the kitchen decorated for Christmas. Sputnik the keeper of the kitchen is sitting at the table having a croissant and coffee while thinking about his Christmas dinner menu.
I found this video on YouTube by Lolita Lempicka. It is the making of a photo shoot, and there are beautiful scenes included of the making of a doll house for the shoot.
This is the room that I made for my Blythe, Sky Pilot. I wanted it to be a magical room that a fairy or other-world being would like. To give it that look I glued a piece of antique wallpaper to one wall, and added mediums to the acrylic paint that I used to give texture to one other wall and the floor.
The last doll house that I’ve done is the home for my Lati’s. I am not ready to buy an actual doll house yet, because I want to really refine my ideas of what I want before I make that purchase.
What I bought was plastic boxes that snap together that are made by Its and you can purchase them at Target. I love these boxes, they are attractive, functional and come in a few different colors. I chose pink and white boxes for my Lati house, buying five of them for the different rooms.
The furniture in the living room of the Itso house is mainly Ikea furniture, I found the entire set of it on Ebay and bought it because I thought that it would go well in the Itso boxes. The floral chair is from a site that is no longer functional. The artwork on the walls is mine and I do sell it at my Etsy store. The rug is a place mat from Bed Bath and Beyond, and I tacked it down with double sided carpet tape.
Next to the living room is the bedroom with it’s Ikea furniture, and re-ment. I made the bedding for the beds and the artwork on the walls is mine. This is the one box that I didn’t add the shelf into, and you can see how high the ceiling is. At the top of the picture is the bottom portion of the next room up, which is the nursery.
Downstairs is the kitchen, it is filled with Ikea furniture, re-ment, and my artwork is on the wall. The floor is adhesive shelf paper and I glued paper onto the walls. In some of the Itso box rooms I added the shelf that can be purchased with the box, and fitted it into either the top or bottom section of the box. For the kitchen I put the shelf on the bottom and used the small Itso storage boxes for some of my re-ment.
The room next to the kitchen is the bathroom, and again the furniture is Ikea. The art work is mine, and the floor is adhesive shelf paper.
On the top floor is the nursery and the deck. The nursery is my latest project, and I have just found the furniture that I want to buy for it.
I have two Domo’s that live with the Lati and take care of her. They, of course have their own room which is a attic room, made by putting a shelf in the top portion of one of the rooms. I found a tile square at a tile showroom that fits exactly inside the room, and the furniture is Mega-house, Plasco and Polly Pocket.
The last space is the deck, and the two Wonder Frogs and the Elfdoll live there. I used one of the smaller boxes for the Elfdolls space and decorated it with bits of this and that. The Wonder frogs are happy with their Barbie couch a guitar and a thick rug.
My Strawberry Shortcakes needed a house of their own, and since I have so many of them it needed to be large. Looking back I really should have cut windows into the outside walls, because it is difficult to light the back of the rooms since they are so deep. I didn’t though, so I have to be creative with the lighting, which sometimes works, and sometimes not.
This is the Asian Room. It originally was built for Sky Pilot, but she seems to prefer wandering around the house so I re-did this room for the little bjd’s. I made the tables, cushions and low couch, and the rug was part of a vintage dress of mine.
I recently re-did the house I made for the Strawberry Shortcakes, painted and re-furnished it with vintage wooden miniature furniture. My Real Puki Sulfer moved in right away and one of the Puki Puki’s Marisela is thinking of moving in with her.
